While the majority of the world gathers around festive trees in late December, Eritreans and Ethiopians wait patiently for the 7th of January to unfurl the mystery of the season. Guided by the Julian calendar, which is 7 years behind the widely adopted Gregorian calendar, these celebrations shine a spotlight on the rich cultural tapestry woven by centuries of history, keeping the ancient royal and priestly celebrations.
