Haile Selassie School Founders Day Campus Roundup
2026 Founder’s Day activities at the Haile Selassie High School on Payne Avenue in West Kingston, Jamaica, took place on the Rastafari Groundation Day, Tuesday April 21, 2026. The annual Founder’s Day celebration commemorates the founding of the school by Ethiopian King H.I.M. Emperor Haile Selassie I during his State Visit to Jamaica in 1966. While roving the classrooms and corridors of the school on Founder’s Day 2026, Rootz Reporter I. Jabulani Tafari witnessed the unveiling of a new mural at the entrance to the school building; interviewed the Information Technology Department Head; talked with 6th Form construction students and their teacher; spoke with representatives of the DARC Foundation distributing footwear to students; and also spoke with Haile Selassie High School Principal Mrs. Anniona Jones about an ongoing fundraising effort.
