Where salt was traded ounce for ounce with gold, and camel caravans still cross 700 kilometers of open Sahara.
The world forgot this place. The headlines reduced it to conflict and poverty. But beneath the sand and the silence, something extraordinary persists — libraries older than the printing press, mosques that have stood for seven centuries, and a tradition of scholarship that once made Timbuktu the intellectual capital of an entire continent.
Mali does not ask to be understood. It simply endures.
