In 1948, Haile Selassie the First donated 500 acres (2.0 km2) of his privately owned land to members of the Ethiopian World Federation (EWF) and other Africans in the diaspora to give the chance to return to Africa.Their return in good jobs was led by the EWF, founded in 1937 by the Special Envoy of the Emperor, Melaku E. Baymen (cousin of the Emperor).
