What Do Rastafarians Believe?
Rastafarianism originated as a belief set on the Caribbean island of Jamaica in the 1930’s as a result of Black Empowerment and Supremacist movements, incorporating Pan Africanism and Ethiopianism as promoted by Marcus Garvey and turning it into a colourful religion, reinterpreting the Bible and giving a key position to Haile Selassie, then Ethiopia’s emperor. Popularised by Reggae Artists like Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer, Rastafari messages were imported across the world although the key details of Jamaica’s only indigenous religion are still obscure and little known to most of us.
