You know Emperor Haile Selassie the first but do you know the Empress behind the throne?

Meet Empress Menen Asfaw—Ethiopia’s beloved empress, a fierce humanitarian, and the Mother of the Ethiopian Nation!

Born April 3, 1891 – Crowned 1930 – Transitioned 1962

She championed women’s rights, founded Ethiopia’s first all-girls school, and built childcare centers to uplift her people.

During the Italian invasion (1936-1941), while Emperor Selassie fought on the battlefield, she led Ethiopia at home—defying the odds!

A woman of deep faith, she built churches and mosques across Ethiopia and even in the Holy Land—donating her own crown to the Church of Nativity in Bethlehem.

But behind the scenes, she was also the Emperor’s closest advisor, a mother of six, and a symbol of grace and resilience.

Laid to rest in 1962, her legacy lives on—forever immortalized by those who love her and him.

Empress Menen. An Empress. A Leader. A Legend.

It contains 5 basic precepts for a good and honest life, that can be interpreted in parallel with the 5 pillars of Tewahedo Faith (Trinity, Incarnation, Baptism, Eucharist, Resurrection of the Dead).
