The Ethio-US Investment Summit was held in Houston, Texas on Wednesday (July 30) and marked a new beginning and commitment from both sides to strengthen their economic and business relations.
The high level delegation delegation, led by led by President Dr. Mulatu Teshome and Foreign Minister Dr. Tedros Anhanom, included senior officials and 75 representatives of the private sector. Nearly 400 Americans representing different US companies participated. In an opening address, President Mulatu emphasised the need to replicate the exemplary political and social relationship that exist between the US and Ethiopia in the economic arena.
The President thanked the US for its support for Ethiopia’s accession to the World Trade Organization. He called on US investors to come to Ethiopia and engage in the various potential sectors available for investment , and assured participants at the Summit that the Ethiopian government was fully committed to assist in everyway possible. A panel discussion on Doing Business in Ethiopia took a detailed look at the investment opportunities and the business environment. After the question and answer session, Foreign Minister, Dr.Tedros, called on US investors to come to Ethiopia, a land of opportunity, and promised to give them any support necessary for investment in Ethiopia.
