Prince Alemayehu of Ethiopia was taken by British forces following the 1868 Battle of Magdala. Following his father, Emperor Tewodros II's suicide, the seven-year-old prince was brought to Britain under the care of Captain Tristram Speedy. He lived a short, isolated life and died in 1879 at age 18 in England.
