Ras Kitchen | Shame Me Darling

Spread the love

In Jamaica, we have a plant called “Shame Me Darling” or “Shame ah Macka” said to cure leprosy. Ras Mokko with Ras Kitchen shows you how this delicate plant reacts to his touch. One leaf of this bush contains about twenty four miniature leaves, twelve on each side and sharp prickly stubs on the stem. On contact, the miniature leaves then closes like a book for a while then re-opens once left alone. Granny explained how the bush was given its name. She says, same like a naked lady touched without consent it feels ashamed so it closes itself and appeared like a lady riddled with shame.
